Brilliant Latin jazz percussionist, composer and band leader
**********
Long time Nuyorican and master percussionist Wilson "Chembo" Corniel is constantly breaking new ground as frontman of his killer Latin jazz quintet Grupo Chaworó. He has played with such luminaries Willie Colón, Hilton Ruiz, Chucho Valdés, Grady Tate, Buddy Montgomery, Angela Bofill, Tito Nieves, Chico Freeman and Ray Vega, to name only a few.

On his two albums as leader of his own band, Portrait In Rhythm and For The Rest Of Your Life, he has written and selected a collection of brilliant Latin and jazz compositions that show a breathtaking range of emotion and style, and his combo's ability to blend pure Latin rhythms such as merengue, salsa, Cu-bop and rhumba with swing, funk, fusion and more must be heard to be believed.

Both albums feature Chembo playing a wide range of percussion instruments, including tumbadoras, bongó, batá (okonkolo), chekere, guataca, clave, talking drum, cajón quinto and guiro, among others. Joining Chembo on these recordings are an all-star cast of Latin and jazz greats, including Bobby Porcelli, Grady Tate, Tino Derado, Ivan Renta, Vince Cherico, Ruben Rodriguez, John Walsh, Oriente Lopez, John Dimartino, Steve Wilson, Ray Vega, Mario Rivera and more...
